Darla’s Independent Project

This post features student writing.

I really like to draw, so for my independent project I wanted to interview another artist. It turned out Biembo, who had been helping us, also drew, so I decided to talk to him. First, he let me see some of his artwork and explained how it showed the history of El Peñón. Then I showed him one of my drawings, an anime girl. He said that he knew a style of art similar to what I’d done, where the artists used no color and the people had similar features, which I thought was cool. After that we had a conversation. I learned that he prefers to draw landscapes, whereas I prefer people. I also discovered that he likes to draw with a pencil first, a sentiment I can certainly agree with, as you can’t erase pen. It was really interesting to talk to a real artist, and learn about the similarities and differences between both our individual pieces, and the styles in the places we’re from.
